Mark Twain was a great humourist and so is our VNT. The Canadian Stephen Leacock was another. If you haven't read his pieces, check out My Financial Career at http://students.iiit.ac.in/~nirnimesh/Literature/MyFinancialCareer.htm. One thing I've noticed about humourists is that while most people only put our best face forward, these special people reveal their stupidest, silliest, most awkward moments and laugh at themselves while most of us would just be embarrassed and never tell anyone ever!

Yes mesjay, Jerome K Jerome's Uncle Podger was a laughfest too!Zualteii Poontehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03894762926515124116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8950931197043565670.post-77316638008547214452008-02-08T10:15:00.000+05:302008-02-08T10:15:00.000+05:30Ha ha ha!! I wish more readers would realise just how important feedback, either positive or negative, is for a new venture like this.

daydreambeliever, don't forget to share all your knowhow on translations!

ruolngulworld, this is actually the third VNT here after Thunderbird and The Jackfruit Tree. Personally I think VNT does humour best. For a complete collection of his books, you might try contacting him at http://lengzem.info/

life10, glad you enjoyed it. I was a little worried the humour would get lost in translation as sometimes happens. I can't remember the number of times I chuckled and laughed out loud myself over VNT's anecdotes when I was working on it. Fun read all the way.

Illusionaire, there's something wrong with this template which strings all the paragraphs together on the front page though it works just fine on the actual post pages. I've put in double spaces so it shouldn't be too hard on the eyes now.

samuelpa, thank you! I wasn't really aiming for an RD style when I was working on it, more on that flip Cosmo style but I guess all's well that ends well :)Zualteii Poontehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03894762926515124116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8950931197043565670.post-68973500643574770512008-01-31T22:53:00.000+05:302008-01-31T22:53:00.000+05:30Believe it or not, I find this translation more in...Believe it or not, I find this translation more interesting than the Mizo version!!!
Reader's Digest ka chhiar emaw ka inti hial a...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8950931197043565670.post-59558489892018137472008-01-31T20:18:00.000+05:302008-01-31T20:18:00.000+05:30Thanx for such a great translation, miss Poonte. Left an offline at messenger for you. Just a small itsy-bitsy favor. Can you please leave a one line gap between paragraphs? I say this without having read the original but it is such a good translation that it is like reading it in the original.
As I have said before, this is just the kind of writing that Mizo literature needs - no moralizing, just straight forward telling it as it is. This was just my second VNT but I think I am now a fan. Thank you Pu VNT, Zuali and 'storyteller'. Can somebody tell me how I can lay my hand on all his books? :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8950931197043565670.post-26159572168314879822008-01-30T23:55:00.000+05:302008-01-30T23:55:00.000+05:30"first attempt" poh khatiang a nih chuan....lookin..."first attempt" poh khatiang a nih chuan....looking forward to more translations from her. I loved this piece in the original Mizo, and read the English version again with equal enjoyment...kudos to VNT and Zuali! They say when it's a good translation, you don't have to refer to the original to enhance your understanding of it...I think readers who've never read the original would still derive as much pleasure from this piece, as they would in Mizo.DayDreamBelieverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00365073225447718656noreply@blogger.com
